Flight disruptions expected at George Airport due to severe weather

Flights are expected to be disrupted at George Airport in the Western Cape today due to severe inclement weather conditions.

The Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) says the unsafe conditions include strong winds.

They could affect a particular runway that is currently under maintenance.

Earlier this month, flights had to be delayed at the same airport due to the impact of bad weather conditions.

Spokesperson Mphilo Dlamini says they are monitoring the situation.

“The weather condition around the airport is not conducive and safe for aircraft to operate with wind direction favouring the use of runway 11, whose instrument lending system flight procedure is still under maintenance. ATNS will continue to monitor the situation and advise airlines and aviation stakeholders accordingly.”
