A tourist has died after he was charged and trampled by an elephant near the Kruger National Park’s Malelane Gate in Mpumalanga.
The South African National Parks (SANParks) says the events leading up to the incident are still being investigated.
SANParks Spokesperson, Ike Phaahla says the deceased was a local tourist.
“We can confirm the incident at Malelane Gate where a local tourist was trampled by an elephant and succumbed to his injuries. The incident is under investigation by the police.”
“SANParks Board and Management extend their sincerest condolences to the family of the deceased on the loss of their loved one. Meanwhile, we request social media users to please refrain from sharing videos of the incident as it might compromise investigation,” Phaahla adds.
