In 2018, Major-General Mokoape was conferred with the Order of Luthuli in silver for his selfless service during the liberation struggle.

Deputy President Paul Mashatile says Major-General Mokoape died at a time when the ANC was tapping into the wisdom of struggle veterans for its renewal efforts.

“I’m sure General Mokoape will be very pleased to see the ANC not dying. What we need to do is to renew the ANC to continue to serve our people as a tribute.”

The SA National Defence Force held a memorial service in Thaba Tshwane for the late Major General on Tuesday.
