The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Mmamoloko Kubayi has encouraged young girls and boys to report sexual harassment.

She says this will go a long way in eliminating incidents such as statutory rape and unwanted pregnancies.

Kubayi was speaking at Imiqhayi Senior Secondary School at Mount Coke in the Eastern Cape, during an oversight visit of schools in the Buffalo City Metro.

“When a child is pregnant, it’s a statutory rape, we have got to look at the perpetrator. As we have seen, the majority of the time it is old men who are sleeping with the children and I was saying you can’t as a learner give consent to sex. You are yet at the time to know what’s right or wrong, what is consent and the law does not allow you to give that consent when you are still under your parents.”
