A 21-year-old man from Delft on the Cape Flats has been arrested after setting his three Pitbull dogs on police officers conducting a search for illegal firearms.
Police spokesperson Malcolm Pojie stated that members of the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) were forced to use rubber bullets to defend themselves against the dogs.
During the search, officers discovered a pistol with 9.45 calibre rounds of ammunition, 10 mandrax tablets, and tik in the suspect’s possession.
The man faces charges for inciting the dogs to attack police officers, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, and possession of drugs.
He is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court today.
