Mengo referred to Mbenenge as “Daddy” in text messages

The Judicial Conduct Tribunal probing sexual harassment allegations against Eastern Cape Judge President Selby Mbenenge has heard that the complainant, Andiswa Mengo, referred to him as “Daddy”.

This is revealed in one of the text messages that form part of the evidence in the January 2023 complaint.

Mengo, a Judges’ Secretary, accuses Mbenenge of sexual harassment in the form of in-person interaction and electronic communication between June 2021 and November 2022.

She says, “I responded in this manner because he is indeed a father and I referred to him as father and I do the same to other male judges, I refer to them as daddy as well. The female ones, I will call them mommy, as they also understand that I am their little girl.”
