Hammanskraal residents urged to pay their water bills

The City of Tshwane has reminded residents of Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria, who have started to receive water to pay their bills.

The city is supplying water to parts of Hammanskraal as well as Mandela village, Steve Biko, Marokolong and Babelegi.

Residents have been without water for nearly two decades.

Some residents, however, remain without clean water as the city continues with the project.

Tshwane Mayor Nasiphi Moya says households will be billed from the first day that water starts to flow out of their taps.

She says the aim is to ensure a sustainable water supply.

“Please pay our bills. If you are unable to pay our bills, get into the indigent programme. So the one thing that needs to happen, all those residents must get their clean bills, meaning where it shows that over the years this is was your electricity bill, your property rates and extra, but where it says water it must say zero and then we start from scratch from the day that they have received clean water.”
