The City of Cape says it has managed to contain a fire that gutted several structures in an informal settlement in Langa on the Cape Flats in the early hours of this morning.
The City’s Fire and Rescue Service’s spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse, says firefighters from the Epping Fire Station who responded to an emergency call requested additional help due to the density of the area.
Carelse says the wind caused the fire to spread.
He says 40 firefighters battled to control the blaze. Carelse says the fire has displaced many people.
No injuries or fatalities have been reported. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
