The Gauteng Education Department says the mobile classes provided to assist with the placement of learners at Hoërskool Akasia, north of Pretoria, are of good quality.
Angry parents yesterday barricaded roads and burned tyres demanding that their children be placed as they stay in close proximity to the school. Although the parents blockaded the roads, the first day of school was not disrupted.
Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona, “There’s satellite schools that we have introduced there, there’s railway, Theresa Park but because those are mobile units, they don’t want mobile units, they want a brick and mortar. Those schools are teaching, they working very well. There’s a school in Johannesburg that gave us a 100% pass. So, it’s a myth that mobile schools won’t give you what you want.”
