A cultural expert says that her studies and research confirm that Masindi Mphephu’s mother was not a Dzekiso wife.
Nomthandazo Ntlama-Makhanya says even if Masindi was a man born of a Dzekiso wife, it does not automatically give her the right to ascend the throne.
A Dzekiso wife is selected by the royal council to give birth to an heir.
Ntlama-Makhanya testified at the Polokwane High Court in Limpopo where the battle for the Vhavenda throne is continuing.
Princess Masindi Mphephu is challenging her uncle and former Vhavenda king, Prince Toni Mphephu-Ramabulana to ascend the throne.

Ntlama-Makhanya is being cross-examined by Prince Mphephu Ramabulana’s lawyer, Shoni Ravele.
“My report was prepared on the premises that Ma Masindi was not born of a Dzekiso wife hence this is my qualification that even if she was born of a senior wife which is the Dzekiso wife and even by her meeting all the requirements she doesn’t have an automatic right to ascend the throne even if Masindi herself was a man.”
