The Free State Education Department says its interventions in preparing the matric class of 2024 for exams have paid off. This is after the province retained its number-one spot for the sixth consecutive year. It has achieved a 91% pass rate.
Sehonela Secondary School in Bloemfontein has attained a 90.1% pass rate.
Management of the school says teachers and parents played an important role in preparing learners for exams. Some learners and parents are excited about their results.
“My plans are furthering my studies and pursuing my career,” says one of the learners.
One of the parents says,” I’m so excited and happy. All I can say is that it was not easy they didn’t have enough rest, and we fought with them, I was one of the parents who was helping the school with the support but I’m happy, I’m a proud mom now because now the end results are good.”

Learners at Sehunelo Secondary School say it was a long road.
“It was hard, I had to do a lot of things, just to balance life and my studies. But I am grateful for my results, I am proud of myself.”

The Free State National Senior Certificate results will be announced at a technical media briefing in Bloemfontein this afternoon.
Free State Premier MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae and Education MEC Dr MJ Maboya will make the announcement.
