Severe damage to roads, bridges in Moretele after heavy rains

Roads and bridges in the Moretele Local Municipality in the North West have been severely damaged following heavy rains in the area.

Municipal officials say residents of villages such as Kromkuil, Tlholwe and De Grens are trapped in their homes. They say they are assessing the extent of the damage.

Municipal spokesperson Mothupi Malebye they are working with the relevant government departments to ensure that affected residents are assisted.

“We are experiencing a serious challenge in various areas of Moretele. In Tlholwe village, people are experiencing a problem, in ward 1 De Grens village most of the people failed to go to their working places in Northem due to overflow of the bridge and other areas which are affected are RDP Mathibestad, RDP Carrousel view and RDP Lebotlwane village and some of the roads are experiencing serious challenges because they are also flooded.”
