The National Khoisan Council has confirmed that King Khoisan SA remains in a Northern Cape hospital, where he is recovering from his injuries following a vehicle crash on the N9 between Colesberg and Noupoort on Friday.

Police spokesperson Timothy Sam in a statement says the crash was likely caused by a burst tyre and claimed the life of one person, identified by the National Khoisan Council as Cynthia Triagaardt, also known as Queen Khoisan.

National Khoisan Council member Stanley Peterse says the couple were on their way from their home in Gqeberha to the Union Buildings where King Khoisan SA was facing an eviction order.

He and others have been camping on the lawn of the nation’s administrative capital for more than seven years, highlighting the plight of the Khoi and San communities.

This after the department of Public Works obtained an eviction order last month giving them until Satuday to leave the premises.
