The Department of Health says two nurses have been raped while working the night shift at the Ga-Chuene clinic outside Polokwane, Limpopo.
Health spokesperson Neil Shikwambana says a heavily armed man entered the clinic shortly after midnight.
The suspect then allegedly overpowered security personnel and abducted two nurses.
Shikwambana says the nurses returned this morning and recounted their ordeal.
“MEC Mashego expressed her shock and deep hurt about this deplorable incident that happened to our two nurses at Ga-Chuene clinic and she has described the incident not only as barbaric but also as a setback towards the department’s efforts to ensure that clinics operate for 24 hours. Police have been called to the scene, and the two nurses are receiving psychological support.”
