Matric learners from Godide High School are now writing their exams at a nearby church. The school was hardest hit by storms which tore through Bushbuckridge.
Career counsellor Sanele Gamede says not passing matric is not a failure but an opportunity to grow and make informed decisions. This advice comes as the 2024 matric results are set to be released on Monday
Gamede has encouraged parents to be supportive during this period saying, “The most important thing is to support them and be there for them and allow a shoulder for them to cry on and for them is to do the same as well, to reach out and seek help if they feel like they are not coping so do talk to someone there are facilities and people that are there to assist you. I want them to embrace the fact that they are waiting for results of their hard work and to be comfortable with the fact that they’ve worked so hard.”
Meanwhile, the Department of Basic Education has created a Second Chance Matric Support Programme to assist learners who have not been able to meet the National Senior Certificate requirements.
Academics and psychologists have hailed the programme as one the best options available for matriculants who did not achieve the marks they hoped for. The programme aims to assist learners who have not been able to meet the National Senior Certificate requirements.
