The five suspects that were arrested in Houghton, Johannesburg on Wednesday for the possession of a hijacked vehicle and an unlicensed firearm will appear before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 10th January.
One of the suspects is believed to be former President Nelson Mandela’s grandchild. The vehicle was recovered at Mandela’s former home in Houghton.
Joburg Metro Police confirmed that the victim of the hijacking is safe and unharmed. Metro Police received information regarding the location of a white Toyota Corolla that was hijacked along Louis Botha Avenue in Oaklands earlier on Wednesday.
Upon entering the property, officers recovered the hijacked vehicle and apprehended five individuals, four males and one female. A subsequent search of the premises resulted in the recovery of one unlicensed firearm.
