The judgment in the case between the Department of Basic Education and the Information Regulatory Authority will be delivered on Wednesday in the High Court in Pretoria.
The Information Regulator recently filed an urgent application to stop the department from publishing the 2024 matric results in newspapers, citing concerns over privacy and the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

The Department says they have been publishing matric results in newspapers since 2014 without any issues, and there have not been any court appeals to challenge this practice.
“Our obligation is that we need to deliver results to the candidates at the centre where they sat for the examination so that is not affected at all, we are here debating something that is an optional act in terms of the platform that we utilize to avail results to our candidates something that has been traditional for over 40 years.”
