Fire on the slopes of the Swartberg Mountains
Fire authorities in Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo say teams on the ground are making progress in trying to contain a wildfire high up in the Swartberg Mountains.
The fire has been burning for several days now.
At this stage, no infrastructure is in danger.
Authorities have visited the Cango Retreat and De Hoek Mountain Resort to ensure that these facilities are still safe from the wildfire.
They say that trigger points remain in place for a scaling up of resources, should these accommodation facilities come under threat.
Several role players, including the district fire services, Hessequa Municipality Fire and Rescue Services, Southern Cape Fire Protection Association, Working on Fire and Kishugu and Cape Nature are assisting in the operation.
