Four people including a tavern owner from Thembalethu in George in the Western Cape are expected to appear in the Thembalethu Local Magistrate’s Court today for alleged murder and kidnapping.

Police spokesperson Chris Spies says officers were investigating the disappearance of two women at the weekend when they arrested the suspects.

Investigations led them to a 23-year-old woman at a local hospital.

The woman, who had multiple injuries, told police that suspects had kidnapped and assaulted her and her mother.

Spies says, “During the investigation, another 23-year-old came to the fore. She alleged that she was also assaulted by the suspects but managed to escape. Further investigation took police to bushes near Pacaltsdorp, where the body of a 61-year-old woman was found.”

He adds: “The foursome aged between 30 and 42 remain in police custody. They’re expected to make their first court appearance in the Thembalethu Magistrates Court on Tuesday. As this is an ongoing police investigation, more charges could be added.”
