Investigation
A tavern owner and three other suspects from Thembalethu in George in the Western Cape have been arrested on charges of murder and kidnapping.
Police Spokesperson Chris Spies says officers were investigating the disappearance of two women reported missing at the weekend.
Investigations led to a 23-year-old-woman with multiple injuries at a local hospital, who told police how she and her mother were allegedly kidnapped and assaulted by the suspects.
After another victim came forward, police then discovered the body of the missing 61-year-old woman.
Spies explains, “During the investigation, another 23-year-old came to the fore. She alleged that she was also assaulted by the suspects but managed to escape. Further investigation took police to bushes near Pacaltsdorp, where the body of a 61-year-old woman was found. The foursome aged between 30 and 42 remain in police custody. They’re expected to make their first court appearance in the Thembalethu Magistrates’ court on Tuesday. As this is an ongoing police investigation, more charges could be added.”
