Mine shaft at the Stilfontein in the North West where illegal mining takes place.
More illegal miners are continuing to resurface at the Stilfontein disused mine in the North West province. Eleven illegal miners resurfaced this morning from the Margaret Shaft.
This comes as Deputy Police Minister Paulley Boshielo is scheduled to visit the North West province to assess the Safer Festive Season Operation Shanela today.

North West police spokesperson Colonel Adele Myburgh says, “Eleven resurfaced this morning, and Buffelsfontein mine shaft number 10- so for this week, we are standing at a total of 47 illegal miners that have resurfaced since Monday. So, for Monday, we had six which were four at Margaret shaft and two at shaft number 10 at Buffelsfontein. Tuesday, we had another two, that resurfaced at Buffelsfontein shaft number 10.”
She adds: “On Christmas day, we had 12 and on Boxing Day we had six, yesterday the 10, early this morning, another 11. Most of them were from Buffelsfontein shaft number 10 that’s resurfaced this week.”
