The eThekwini Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal says it can now confirm that two people have died following heavy rains at the weekend in the Nkanini Informal Settlement in Cato Manor in the west of Durban.
A 38-year-old male and an 18-year-old female died when a retaining wall collapsed on their shack yesterday.
Municipal spokesperson Gugu Sisilana says no other injuries have been reported.
“Municipalities disaster management and emergency services units responded promptly to a heavy rain incident that claimed the lives of two people at the informal settlement in Cato Manor. The team worked throughout the night to add the affected and trapped victims.”
