More than 30 undocumented foreign nationals have been arrested in the Rustenburg CBD in the North West.
Rustenburg Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Sheila Mabale-Huma is leading the Safe and Clean City Campaign.
It is aimed at dealing with lawlessness, enforcement of by-laws and ensuring businesses comply with relevant regulations.
Several businesses were raided and closed for non-compliance.
Residents have welcomed the initiative.
One resident says, “I feel good. It is good for the mayor to take out this operation to take out these people. At least they must go back home. They must visit our country at the right time, and they must bring their documents, because they are here without documents.”
Another resident says, “We are suffering in South Africa because of these foreigners. They always use our young sisters, young brothers. They sell them drugs and everything that is not good in South Africa.”- Reporting by Thabiso Moss.
