Five illegal miners to appear in the Belfast court today

Five suspected illegal miners arrested at Slaaihoek outside Waterval Boven in Mpumalanga during the Operation Vala Umgodi, will appear at the Belfast Magistrates’ Court today.

The suspects aged between 28 and 42, are facing charges of contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa and unlawful possession of equipment’s suspected to be used for illegal mining.

The police in Mpumalanga also confiscated equipment such as generators, a gas cylinder, and some gas pipes.
