The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) have reached an agreement that will see improved access to the Zondo Commission on State Capture’s database.
This, as the head of the NPA, advocate Shamila Batohi, had previously stated that it has been difficult to make progress on State Capture cases because they don’t have full access to the database.

She told Parliament’s Justice Committee that this had prevented the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption from doing its work.
The Justice Department had at the time ascribed this to a technical glitch related to database warranties. Now, a technical working group will be established to immediately deal with these urgent matters.
Justice Department’s spokesperson Terrence Manase says, “The parties have agreed to strengthen ties with the view to resolving all outstanding issues pertaining to IDAC access and to facilitate an efficient and effective response to IDAC requests.”
“The parties also agreed to set up a technical working group from both sides, that will immediately start working on all urgent issues to ensure that IDAC carries out its mandate without any challenges. The Minister will be regularly briefed with regard to ensure that the parties are given any high-level support they may require from time to time.”
