“I’m a single parent living with four children, and we’ve been left homeless after a heavy rainstorm destroyed our home last night. We were forced to seek temporary shelter elsewhere until this morning. Unfortunately, as an unemployed individual, I’m struggling to make ends meet and cannot afford the necessary repairs to restore our home.”

“A severe storm swept through our area last night, catching us off guard. The heavy rain and strong winds caused significant damage to my home, with the corrugated iron roofing being completely destroyed. I’ve lost nearly all my belongings, and I’m currently trying to salvage what’s left to create a temporary shelter for tonight. The situation is dire, and I’m in urgent need of assistance to rebuild and recover.”

The Mogalakwena Local Municipality spokesperson, Malesela Selokela says nearly twenty houses were totally destroyed.

Selokela says they are working to assist those affected. “Around 18 houses are very much demolished. So they cannot do anything to fix those and so they will be given temporary shelter. As we usually do to assist those who are in dire need in terms of this situation.”

“We will quantity this number in terms of temporary shelter that we have and see how we help in this situation,” adds Selokela.

Residents are trying to salvage what is left to rebuild their lives. They are calling on the government to intervene and help with necessities.
