Accident involving an SUV and a minibus taxi on the N9 road just outside Graaf Reinet in the Eastern Cape.
A head-on collision between an SUV and a minibus taxi on the N9 road outside Graaf-Reinet in the Eastern Cape has claimed 14 lives.
The crash occurred in the early hours of the morning.
Provincial Department of Transport Spokesperson, Unathi Binqose says the SUV, carrying six occupants collided with a fully loaded minibus taxi travelling from the Western Cape to the Eastern Cape.
Binqose says all six occupants of the SUV and eight occupants of the minibus taxi lost their lives in the crash.
He says, “Fourteen people have died on the scene and sadly six of them are from SUV and are believed to be from the same family. Its another head on collision and the MEC for transport in the Eastern Cape is constantly calling for you and I to be extra vigilant, and to be patient with one another, to help us avoid avoidable accidents like head on collision that we have seen so many of in recent days.”
