Gauteng police have arrested 12 people between the ages of 19 and 62 at Nana’s Farm, in Lenasia – South of Johannesburg in connection with a fire that claimed four lives.
According to Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo the suspects are accused of starting a blaze that killed four men, who were believed to have been involved in local criminal activities.
Masondo says two other men were severely injured and are receiving treatment in hospital.
“It is alleged that a group of community members apprehended six males whom they accused of house breaking and theft. They then assaulted and burned them. Four were certified dead on the scene while two others were taken to the hospital in a serious condition. The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Gauteng strongly condemns the acts of vigilantism and warned that those who take the law into their hands will be dealt with decisively.”
