Compliance inspection conducted as part of Operation Shanela, at a spaza shop in Kimberley, Northern Cape. Nov 2024
The City of Johannesburg is calling on spaza shop owners to take immediate action and submit their applications for registration before the impending deadline of Friday, December 13.
To date, a total of 5 944 application forms have been issued from the 25 registration sites set up across the city’s seven regions to facilitate this important process.
As part of the city’s effort to streamline, monitor, and support the spaza shop sector, officials emphasize the necessity of comprehensive registration.
However, until all applications are fully completed and all documents submitted no permit can be issued.
Failure to comply with the registration timeline may result in the closure of establishments operating without proper authorisation.
In a statement, the city confirmed its commitment to ensuring that all spaza shop owners have the opportunity to register and contribute to the local economy.
