SANTACO launches ‘Ride Without Fear’ campaign to tackle GBV in W Cape

1 minute

The taxi body SANTACO in the Western Cape and various organisations have signed a pledge that seeks to address the scourge of gender-based violence and ensure commuter safety.

The campaign ‘Ride Without Fear’ will focus on amongst other things, raising awareness in the fight against GBV, implementing and enforcing strict policies against GBV, harassment and misconduct within the taxi industry.

SANTACO Second Deputy Chairperson in the Western Cape, Gershon Geyer says they want to encourage women who fall victim to gender-based violence in taxis to come forward.

“The issues never get reported to us. I don’t know maybe women are afraid to come forward. That’s why we want to get involved so that people can feel free and that they can report these incidents. We’ve got an issue of one of the ladies that is here today that one of their family members fell victim to one of these cases.”
