Joburg residents call for urgent action on water crisis

Frustrated residents from Westbury, Coronationville, Melville and surrounding areas in Johannesburg, have called on the newly elected speaker of the Johannesburg council to urgently resolve the water crisis in the area.

This came out during a public meeting hosted by speaker Nobuhle Mthembu over the ongoing water cuts in their area.

Residents say they have been experiencing ongoing water cuts during the day for the past four years.

Some residents claim water only comes out of their taps between midnight and four o’clock in the morning.

“This challenge has been going on for a very long time where there is no water for long periods of time, for over four years now already, and it has just been getting worse. We have been hearing excuse after excuse and nothing has changed. The worst part is that five metres across the road from us an informal settlement, Slovo Park has running water 24/7 and our elderly people are dry, they don’t have running water,” says Coronationville resident, Clint le Roux.
