Protea Glen residents protest as they are left without water for days

Motorists have been advised to exercise caution as protest in Protea Glen, south of Johannesburg, disrupts traffic.

The protest began early this morning after residents have been without water for over a week. They accused Joburg Water of failing to restore supply in the area.

Residents have blocked the R558. Motorists have been urged to find alternative routes.

Joburg Water blames a malfunctioning valve for the disruption and says they in the process of fixing it.

 

Mobile water tanks have been deployed temporarily. But the community fed up have now taken to the streets, burning tyres and barricading roads in protest.

Since Monday, protest action has erupted in the area as the taps continue to run dry. Authorities are monitoring the situation.
