Warning against buying unregistered medication from tuck shops

The Independent Community Pharmacy Association (ICPA) has raised concerns about the sale of unregistered medication at tuck shops, urging the public to exercise caution.

This warning comes as authorities remain vigilant following reports of contaminated food sold at some tuck shops, which has been linked to the deaths of 22 people.

The government has given food outlet owners, including tuck shops, until next Friday to register their businesses with local municipal authorities.

ICPA Chief Executive Jackie Maimin emphasised the need for stricter health regulations and offered advice to the public.

“I think we need to get more regulation around what is sold and how it’s sold; the health regulation needs to be looked at. But what I can say is that, as parents, there are certain things we can do to make our family safe,” Maimin says.
