UPDATE | Death toll rises to eight in Western Cape bus accident

The death toll in the bus crash on the N1 near Worcester in the Boland has risen to eight.

Western Cape Mobility Minister, Isaac Sileku, says the bus was on its way from the Eastern Cape to Cape Town when it overturned.

He says the incident happened just before they were supposed to stop in Worcester to rest.

Sileku says scores of other passengers were injured and taken to hospital.

It is unclear at this stage what led to the incident.

Further assessments are currently being conducted.
