The body of a 23-year-old Limpopo student who drowned at Umhlanga at the start of the week has been recovered in Ballito, further north along the KwaZulu-Natal coast.
NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon says the missing man’s body was found and recovered from the sea by police and lifeguards during an ongoing search.
The man is believed to have been caught in a rip current when he and his brother went for a swim before they were to catch a flight home after visiting the Drakensberg.
Ten people have drowned in KwaZulu-Natal over the past two weeks.
Lambinon says, “On Friday afternoon, November 29, during ongoing search and recovery efforts, the body of a man was located and recovered by police at Clarkes Beach in Ballito. The body recovered is confirmed to be that of a 23-year-old male from Limpopo who had gone missing from the surf zone at Eastmoor Crescent, Umhlanga on Monday, November 25.”
