The case relates to an alleged investment scam in which investors were allegedly swindled out of more than R4 billion.
Just before the state could commence with cross examination, Liebenberg dropped the unexpected news that he would no longer be continuing with his application.
This is after he spent the whole of Monday arguing among others, that there is a witch hunt against him.
He also told the court that he suffers from arthritis which has worsened due to the poor prison diet. Liebenberg and his wife Desiree will remain in custody until February next year when the matter resumes for a trial date.
They will be joined by the seven other accused who are out on bail.
