Police search for eighth suspect linked to Lusikisiki mass murder

Eastern Cape police say they are looking for an eighth suspect linked to the mass murder of 18 people at Ngobozana village in Lusikisiki.

Seven accused are appearing at the Lusikisiki Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

The accused are facing 18 counts of murder and the possession of unlicensed firearms. They are appearing together in court for the first time.

Provincial Commissioner Nomthetheleli Mene says they have deployed more officers in the Lusikisiki area.

“Yesterday we had a very fruitful imbizo with the community of Ngombozana, specifically where this murder took place, and you could hear the positive remarks coming from the community. We have added more forces on the ground, and we are keeping this place under very close monitoring as the SAPS. We have our additional forces deployed to the area, and we also have the TRT (Tactical Response Team) in areas so that people can just be able to live in peace.”
