The Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, Sello Seitlholo, is expected to visit Tswaing Local Municipality today to assess the state of water supply infrastructure in the area.
Residents of Tswaing have expressed their frustration, they say they have been struggling with inconsistent water supply since 2007.
One of the residents, Crien Visser says they are relying on alternative water sources such as boreholes and water tankers which have placed a burden on already struggling households.
Visser says they now await concrete plans and activation from the Deputy Minister’s visit, hoping it will mark the beginning of a solution to their long-standing water struggles.
”I can tell you since 2007, we have more days without water than with water. The citizens and businesses are suffering immensely as well as townships and informal dwellings. Our villages, some of them go for years without water, they have to drive to other villages to go and find water there.”
“We get water in the morning and water in the evening and if you’re not there you’ve missed the water. In that period when the water comes and you’re not home, you can’t do washing, you can’t bath, you can’t do anything like that,” adds Visser.
