The Gauteng Provincial Government will today, 25 November 2024, officially launch the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign in Tshwane.
The Commission for Gender Equality has expressed concerns about incidents of gender-based violence (GBV) and abuse of women and children.
The commission’s spokesperson Jabu Baloyi is calling on communities to come together and fight this abuse.
This comes ahead of the national launch of the “16 Days of No Violence campaign” by Deputy President Paul Mashatile in Rustenburg in the North West today.
Baloyi says the awareness should go beyond the campaign period.
“The national launch campaign is very much significant so that we alert and advise each other 365 days and not today only. And also the study by the Human Rights Commission is very much useful and important. The gender commission also comes in and works with the community members. In Mpumalanga, the commission was very much worried due to the withdrawal of cases. The campaign is very much significant not for 16 days only, it must be beyond.”
