Concerns over the harassment of Cape fur seals

1 minute

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment has raised concerns over the harassment of Cape fur seals. They say that incidents of brutality are on the rise ever since rabies was detected in the Cape fur seal population.

The department says these include people allowing dogs to attack resting seals, throwing stones at seals and hitting seals.

The department says such activities are a criminal offence.

They’ve also requested the public to inform authorities if seals appear to be weak, unwell or aggressive.
