Concerned residents of Tshikitsha locality in Katkop near Nqanqarhu in the Eastern Cape are pleading for government intervention to curb stock theft in their area.
This follows an alleged attack on a local traditional leader whose home was burnt to the ground and his livestock stolen last night.
The residents allege that stock theft is rife in the area and those who are vocal in fighting it are often targeted by stock thieves. A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity says they live in fear.
“We have a challenge here of stock theft. As I’m staying now the house is burnt down. The criminals are really taking advantage of that. Can you please assist? We are also kindly requesting our government to intervene here. They wanted to kill this man who is fighting against crime. Fortunately he managed to escape.”
