Bail hearing of 8 accused in Limpopo insurance killings to continue

Eight people accused in the insurance-related killings will return to the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court to continue with their bail application.

They are linked to an alleged syndicate led by former police Sergeant Rachel Kutumela.

The accused allegedly insured unsuspecting victims and later killed them to claim insurance payouts.

The state is opposing bail.

The suspects, who are mostly family members and relatives, have been in custody since their arrest in February.

They are believed to be part of a gang allegedly led by Kutumela, her daughter and sister.

The accused are facing several charges, including murder and fraud.

The investigating officer, Captain Keshi Mabunda, is expected to continue on the stand opposing bail.

In the previous sitting, Mabunda told the court that some of the accused were interfering with witnesses.
