IEC seeks clarity on the terms of Rise Mzansi loan

The Electoral Commission (IEC) has announced plans to meet with Rise Mzansi to seek clarity on the terms of its loan, which has now turned into a donation.

Yesterday, the commission released its latest political party donation report for the fourth Quarter of the year 2025-2026.

The report shows that the DA got over R57 million, followed by Rise Mzansi at R30 million and Action-SA at over R9 million.

IEC Party Funding Manager, Matsobane Nkoko, says the constitution allows the commission to seek clarification in cases where there is any misunderstanding regarding donation mechanisms.

He says, “Rise Mzansi took a loan about a year ago, a loan that was falling slightly below this R30 million that is declared here, which then was attracting interest. Now, in this year, Rise Mzansi and the loan giver, which is We, the people, have agreed terms to say let that loan amount be converted into a donation. It’s something that, as the Commission, we need to understand.”
