An inter-departmental provincial leadership delegation is travelling across parts of the Western Cape to assess damages from the recent storms.
The group, led by Premier Alan Winde, will assess damages in Malmesbury, Ceres and the greater Cederberg region.
Western Cape Finance Minister, Deidré Baartman, says the financing of disasters should be prioritised across all spheres of government.
“So, as municipalities, as the provinces, but also national government, we’re going to have to have that sit-down meeting to really discuss, as a country, are we budgeting proactively for disasters? How are we looking at our reserves? And when we’re looking at our budget facility for infrastructure nationally, can we add criteria for disaster-impacted infrastructure?”
