SAHRC holds imbizo following concerns about undocumented foreigner

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has convened a virtual imbizo on Monday to discuss citizens’ concerns over undocumented foreign nationals.

This follows several anti-illegal immigration protests which took place across the country in recent weeks.

As the continent marks Africa Day on Monday, the SAHRC says discussions will focus on alleged human rights violations, the displacement of individuals and the role of state institutions in response to the situation.

SAHRC Commissioner Philile Ntuli has invited members of the public, community leaders and civil society organisations to participate in the discussions.

“We recognise the rising crisis. We recognise the threat to human rights, but we equally recognise the concerns of South Africans regarding service delivery, unemployment, and inequalities across the country. And in that spirit of Ubuntu and dialogue, we have called this imbizo to one, listen to the concerns of the community but also to be able to come out with a balanced collective response to these issues,” adds Ntuli.
