KZN Agriculture begins mass FMD vaccination rollout
Over one million cattle have been vaccinated to curb the spread of foot-and-mouth disease in KwaZulu-Natal.
The provincial mass vaccination drive began in February this year as part of the national program.
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for agriculture and rural development Thembeni KaMadlopha-Mthethwa says this is a major milestone in the fight against foot and mouth disease.
KaMadlopha-Mthethwa says, “Our canary services department is all over the place, and they finished vaccination at Nongoma, and we have reached over one million, and we are the only province that has hit a million, and we are saying by next week we will be vaccinating around Umgungundlovu, and I am pleading with all livestock farmers to cooperate and work with the department’s officials. And I want today by mid-July, we will have finished every part of KZN.”
