Lead investigator in Meyiwa trial back on the stand

Lead investigator Brigadier Bongani Gininda is expected to be back on the stand when the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial resumes in the High Court in Pretoria today.

Last week, Gininda told the court that in several witness statements, the accused, Muzi Sibiya and Bongani Ntanzi, were named as possible suspects in Meyiwa’s murder

Meyiwa was murdered in Vosloorus on the East Rand in Gauteng in 2014 at the home of his then-girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo.

Earlier this month, Gininda revealed that Kelly Khumalo is the sixth suspect in the murder case.

The lead investigator said they were ready to charge Khumalo back in 2020, however, a warrant of arrest was not authorised when he applied for one.

‘Snail’s pace’

Last month, Meyiwa’s mother, Ntombifuthi, expressed disappointment that 10 years after her son was murdered, the case has not been solved.

She joined Orlando Pirates supporters for the launch of the Senzo Meyiwa branch in Ntuzuma north of Durban, in his honour.

The emotional Ntombifuthi Meyiwa said justice for her son is moving at a snail’s pace.

“Those people did not call the police after my child had been attacked. The police were only called by the neighbour. And someone misled police, while some people were cleaning the house where my son was shot. There is a lot of dissatisfaction,” she added.
