Political parties in Parliament have been given until next Friday to submit the names of their members who will serve on the Impeachment Committee.
This, as Parliament rolls out the steps it outlined to establish this committee.
The establishment is the result of a Constitutional Court judgment last Friday.
The court ruled that Parliament should establish an Impeachment committee for President Cyril Ramaphosa, to answer to prima facie evidence about foreign currency stolen from his Phala Phala farm in 2020.
National Assembly Speaker, Thoko Didiza, has met with the chief whips of the different political parties about the composition of the 31-member committee.

Parliamentary spokesperson Moloto Mothapo says, “Following these engagements, Political parties will today be requested to submit the names of Members who will serve on the committee to the National Assembly Secretariat by the close of business on Friday, 22 May 2026. In determining the composition of the Impeachment Committee, the Speaker considered not only the constitutional principle of proportional representation, but also the need for inclusivity and broad participation in this unprecedented parliamentary process.”
“The committee will consist of 31 members; Inkatha Freedom Party, Patriotic Alliance, Freedom Front Plus, ActionSA, African Christian Democratic Party, United Democratic Movement, Rise Mzansi, Build One South Africa, African Transformation Movement, Al Jama-ah, National Coloured Congress and United Africans Transformation”, Mothapo adds.
