President Cyril Ramaphosa responds to questions in Parliament
President Cyril Ramaphosa will face members of the National Assembly this afternoon, when he answers oral questions in Parliament.
Questions about last Friday’s Constitutional Court ruling are not on the list, but MPs may try to sneak the matter in during follow-up questions, even though the rules dictate that follow-up questions must relate to the original question.
The ConCourt ruled that Parliament should establish an impeachment committee for him to answer to prima facie evidence about foreign currency stolen from his Phala Phala farm in 2020.
Among others, he will have to answer questions about the deployment of the SANDF to crime-ridden areas and the procedure he followed to place National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola on precautionary suspension.
Meanwhile, Parliament has confirmed that National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza met with Chief Whips on Wednesday and presented proposals on the Impeachment Committee.
Tabling the Section 89 report of the Independent Panel is the first of five steps that Didiza announced, which is to formally inform the National Assembly.
Other steps include sharing the report with Ramaphosa and initiating the process to constitute the Impeachment Committee.
