Two senior police officers and a civilian will appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court east of Johannesburg on Monday.
They were arrested in Houghton, Johannesburg, this Sunday morning.
The suspects are linked to the unlawful possession of precious metals.
The arrests follow investigations into transactions and corruption related to illicit precious metals.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says, “The arrests were effected over the weekend by the team who executed a J50 warrant of arrest. The suspects are expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Monday, facing charges that may include the unlawful dealing in precious metals, defeating the ends of justice, and corruption. These arrests form part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement to dismantle criminal networks involved in the illicit trade of precious minerals and corruption”.
